Situated on the west coast of India near Surat, bordered by the Arabian Sea, the clean and charming beaches of Daman provide an instant solace to a stressful urbanite. The palm-fringed, shoe-shaped beach, Nagoa is undeniably one of the most beautiful beaches in India. Another charming beach is Devka with its long shores in the northern part of Daman. The popular amusement park on the beach with multi-colored fountains gives a blissful sight. Jampore beach situated in the southern part of Daman is an ideal place for holidaying. Other places of interest in Daman are Nani Daman Jetty Garden, old churches, forts, lighthouse and a summerhouse. The island of Diu, an erstwhile Portuguese colony, is situated in the Saurashtra coast of Gujarat bordering Junagadh district. Pandavas during their fourteen years of exile are believed to have lingered at Mani Nagar (DIU), which was under the Yadavas led by Krishna Vasudeva during Mahabharata period. According to mythology, great king Jallandhar, a demon ruled DIU and was killed by Lord Vishnu with his Sudarshan Chakra. The temple of Jallandhar still exists in Diu. Places of interest in Diu are Diu Fort, Forte do Mar, Gupta Prayag at Delwada, Gangeshwar Temple, Nagao Beach, Shaking Tower at Delwada.
