The largest Rose Garden in Asia, has more than 17000 plants representing some 1600 varieties of roses. The annual “Festival of Gardens” is organized in the Rose Garden in the month of February. Chandigarh has 3245 hectares under forest. The forest areas are mostly around Sukhna Lake, Sukhna Choe and Patiali Ki Rao. There are two reserve forests in Chandigarh – Kansal and Nepli. A walk in these areas can be very rewarding as one may come across a large variety of wild animals such as antelopes, neelgais, hyena, jackals, hares and even leopards. The forest also offers excellent facilities for trekking in the hills. Chandigarh has the distinction of having a unique world acclaimed Rock Garden. An unpretentious entrance leads to a magnificent, almost, surrealist arrangement of rocks, boulders, broken chinaware, discarded fluorescent tubes, broken and cast away glass bangles, building waste, coal and clay-all juxtaposed to create a dream folk world of palaces, soldiers, monkeys, village life, women and temples.
